The integration aims to provide a faster, more secure, and scalable digital dollar for everyday transactions and remittances.

PayPal USD (PYUSD), the dollar-backed stablecoin from global payments giant PayPal, is now live on the Avalanche network. The integration, facilitated by the interoperability protocol LayerZero, allows PYUSD to exist as a permissionless, omnichain stablecoin. This expansion aims to leverage Avalanche's high-speed, low-cost infrastructure to power everyday transactions and cross-border remittances.
The move marks a significant step in the evolution of PYUSD, which is issued by Paxos. By utilizing LayerZero's Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard and Stargate Hydra for transfers, PYUSD can move seamlessly across multiple blockchain networks. This interoperability is designed to enhance liquidity and provide users with a "better, faster money experience" without relying on traditional banking rails.
For the Avalanche ecosystem, the addition of a trusted stablecoin like PYUSD provides a crucial building block for its growing DeFi and payments landscape. With sub-second finality and deterministic settlement, Avalanche offers a platform where PYUSD can function as "payment-ready digital money." This development signals a broader trend of stablecoins becoming foundational to the future of global finance, with a focus on real-world utility and mainstream adoption.
