Circle’s USYC Yield-Bearing Token Expands to Solana to Make Idle Collateral Productive

Companies mentioned:

Quick Take
  • USYC, a tokenized money market fund offering yield from US Treasuries, is now live on the Solana blockchain.
  • The token allows users to earn passive yield on capital that would otherwise be unproductive when used as collateral in DeFi.
  • USYC accrues value directly through its token price and is redeemable 1:1 for USDC onchain.

USYC, a tokenized money market fund, is now available on the Solana blockchain. The fund, which provides yield sourced from short-term U.S. Treasury securities, is designed to make static collateral more productive.

Unlike standard stablecoins held as collateral in trading or DeFi venues, USYC accrues yield through an increase in its token price. This allows holders to earn a return on their capital without actively managing it. The integration is native to Solana as an SPL token and features oracle-driven price updates for DeFi integrations.

This launch allows traders and Web3 companies to turn idle capital into a yield-generating asset. The USYC token can be redeemed for USDC onchain, providing a seamless bridge between a yield-bearing instrument and a liquid stablecoin.

The move is part of a broader industry trend of tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs) to bring traditional financial yields to blockchain ecosystems. USYC was originally developed by Hashnote, which was recently acquired by Circle, the issuer of USDC, signaling a strategic push into combining stablecoin liquidity with onchain, T-bill-backed yield.
