Klarna, the global digital bank and payments giant, today announced a research partnership with Privy (a Stripe-owned wallet infrastructure platform) to co-design an easy-to-use crypto wallet aimed squarely at mainstream consumers.

The move comes just weeks after Klarna launched its own USD-pegged stablecoin, KlarnaUSD, in collaboration with Tempo and Bridge. With the stablecoin already live, the company is now turning its attention to the biggest remaining hurdle for mass adoption: giving ordinary people a wallet that feels as intuitive as sending a Venmo payment or splitting a bill in the Klarna app.

“Millions already trust Klarna to help them manage everyday spending, saving and shopping,” said Sebastian Siemiatkowski, CEO and co-founder of Klarna. “That puts us in a unique position to bring crypto into the financial lives of normal people, not just early adopters. The technology has matured, and with Privy we plan to build products that feel as intuitive as any other Klarna feature. This is how mainstream adoption happens: simple, safe, and part of daily life.”

The collaboration will allow Klarna to explore embedding native crypto capabilities directly into its app, potentially letting its 85+ million active users hold, send, receive, and spend a wide range of digital assets alongside their regular fiat balances, everywhere Klarna is available.

Klarna emphasized that the partnership is currently a research and development initiative. Any future wallet or crypto product launches will be subject to obtaining necessary regulatory approvals and licenses in each jurisdiction.
