Maple Finance Proposes Onboarding Yield-Bearing Stablecoins to Aave, Targeting Institutional Capital

Companies mentioned:

Quick Take
  • Maple Finance's yield-bearing stablecoins, syrupUSDT and syrupUSDC, are proposed as new collateral assets on the Aave protocol.
  • The integration aims to attract institutional investors to DeFi by providing high-yield, institutional-grade collateral.
  • A vote is in progress for syrupUSDT on the Aave Plasma market, with a separate proposal for syrupUSDC on the Aave V3 Core market.

Maple Finance is seeking Aave governance approval to onboard two of its yield-bearing stablecoin assets, syrupUSDT and syrupUSDC, as collateral on the Aave platform.

The move is designed to introduce institutional-grade, yield-bearing assets to the DeFi lending market, providing borrowers with new collateral options backed by a consistent yield from overcollateralized, fixed-rate institutional loans.

A governance vote is currently underway for syrupUSDT to be added to the Aave Plasma market. The onboarding of syrupUSDC to the Aave V3 Core Instance is also in the proposal stage.

This integration signals a deepening connection between institutional credit and DeFi. Maple Finance anticipates that making these assets available as collateral on Aave could attract over $500 million in institutional capital, as investors could 'loop' the assets to meet their target returns.
