The expansion, facilitated by Wormhole's NTT standard, will make RLUSD the first U.S.-based, trust-regulated stablecoin on these L2s.
December 15, 2025

Ripple is expanding its RLUSD stablecoin to several Layer 2 networks, including Optimism, Base, Inkonchain, and Unichain. The expansion will utilize Wormhole's Native Token Transfer (NTT) standard to facilitate native and secure transfers of RLUSD across these chains. This move will make RLUSD the first U.S.-based, trust-regulated stablecoin on these networks.
Testing of RLUSD will begin on Optimism, Coinbase's Base, Kraken's Ink, and Uniswap's Unichain, utilizing Wormhole's Native Token Transfers (NTT) standard. This allows for native cross-chain movement without wrapped or synthetic versions, maintaining Ripple's control over issuance while enhancing liquidity and security.
The full launch on these L2s is planned for 2026, subject to final regulatory approvals from the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS).
Jack McDonald, Senior Vice President of Stablecoins at Ripple, emphasized the move's significance:
"Stablecoins are the gateway to DeFi and institutional adoption. RLUSD is designed to be the trusted, liquid medium for users to seamlessly interact with the digital asset economy. By launching the first U.S. trust-regulated stablecoin on these L2 networks, we are setting the standard where compliance and on-chain efficiency converge."
The expansion also boosts utility for XRP holders. Hex Trust has issued wrapped XRP (wXRP), enabling easier cross-chain use alongside RLUSD for trading pairs, lending, swaps, and yield opportunities on supported networks.
