Quick Take
  • BUIDL, managed by Securitize, is the first tokenized U.S. Treasury fund to distribute $100 million in lifetime dividends directly on-chain, showcasing the scalability of blockchain for real-world assets (RWAs).
  • Backed by BlackRock and Morgan Stanley, the fund highlights programmable cash flows, real-time settlements, and transparent yields from Treasury holdings, bridging traditional finance with Ethereum-based infrastructure.
  • Reactions emphasize this as proof of blockchain's practical use, with experts noting implications for broader adoption of tokenized assets in institutional portfolios.

BlackRock's USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL) has become the first tokenized Treasury fund to pay out $100 million in lifetime dividends. This milestone, announced by tokenization platform Securitize, highlights the rapid maturation of real-world assets (RWAs) on public blockchains.

Launched in March 2024, BUIDL is a tokenized money market fund that provides institutional investors with on-chain exposure to U.S. Treasury yields. Built on the Ethereum blockchain and expanded to multichain operations, the fund allows for programmable cash flows, real-time settlements, and transparent dividend distributions. Securitize, the world's largest tokenization platform backed by BlackRock and Morgan Stanley, handles the issuance and management of BUIDL tokens.

The $100 million in dividends paid out represents actual yields from underlying Treasury holdings, distributed directly to token holders on-chain. This achievement not only marks a record for tokenized Treasuries but also demonstrates the scalability of blockchain-based financial products for institutional use.
